Baptism

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptised as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church's way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God.

For families desiring Baptism for Infants / Children

All baptisms in our parish take place during a Sunday Mass. This is because Baptism is the first of three sacraments which initiate a person into the church community and it is important that the community is present for that ritual. (The second and third of the initiation sacraments are Confirmation and Eucharist.) There will be a preparation period for the parents, and we also invite the parent to bring the baby / young person to Mass on the Sunday before the Baptism to be introduced to the community; and the Baptism Certificate will be presented at Mass on the weekend following the Baptism.

You can find more information about the Sacrament of Baptism—for children and adults—here on the website of the United States Catholic Bishops.
